The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest U.S. military decoration, awarded by Congress to a member of the armed forces for gallantry and bravery in combat at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty. Col. Ballard, along with Swypit continue their efforts to help support veterans and their families by providing free burials spaces for veterans. Ballard who himself served as a police officer for 8 years and retired as a Captain, Fire Fighter EMT, makes sure that first responders are treated the same as military veterans.  Col. About Colonel Donald E. Ballard:

Donald Everett Ballard is a retired colonel of the Kansas National Guard and former member of the United States Navy. As a hospital corpsman in the Vietnam War, he received the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on May 16, 1968.

Ballard’s heroic actions and selfless concern for the welfare of his companions served to inspire all who observed him and prevented possible injury or death to his fellow marines. His courage, daring initiative, and unwavering devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, sustain and enhance the finest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.
