Kevin Hodes, CEO of Credit Card Processing Company Swypit, Publishes New Article Discussing Microsoft Study Regarding the Ideal Number of Hours Leaders Should Work

Press Releases

Frisco, TX – September 27, 2019 – Kevin Hodes, CEO of Swypit has published a new article entitled “The Ideal Number of Hours for a Leader to Work: The Microsoft Study.” In the article, Hodes highlights and discusses findings from a recent study done by Microsoft that examines whether or not leaders are more or less effective depending on the number of hours they work.

Hodes begins his piece by referencing an Inc.com review of the study, where the experiment and findings of Microsoft are likened to the application of statistics in baseball, as seen in the movie Moneyball. In other words, Microsoft’s study asked, studied, and answered what would happen if leadership effectiveness was statistically correlated to hours worked.

Specifically, “The Microsoft experiment on hours worked and leadership was the efforts of their HR Manager, Dawn Klinghoffer, and Ryan Fuller. Fuller was the founder of data analysis startup VoloMetrix that was acquired by Microsoft to, “…gain insights from employees’ calendar and email metadata.” Hodes adds, “For this specific experiment, they were really trying to find the answer to why people hated working for Microsoft’s hardware division.”

Generally speaking, explains Hodes, the Microsoft study determined that it is or was not good for leaders to work long hours. While many leaders think the opposite is true, Hodes refers back to the study that proves this not to be the case.

Hodes elaborates, “Interestingly, LEADERS often saw NEGATIVE impacts on their productivity and efficacy—as well as the results their department, division, or company achieved—when they worked super long hours.
